Are you thinking of doing the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb in terms of unforgettable must-do active activity? Think again! Not only is it completely overpriced (starting at AU$308 per person just for the climb during the day not including pictures), but also too overrun and not at all intimate.
Kayaking Sydney Harbour at Sunrise, though is spectacular, intimate, and ok priced. Let's get into some more detail.
Pre-book your magical sunrise paddle with the family-run business Sydney by Kayak. The tour takes 1.5-2 hours and allows you unprecedented views of the city on very calm and glittering water. Upon booking, you will be asked what type of coffee you would like during your paddle.
Now, as you are reading, imagine taking a moment for yourself or with your loved one, dazzling off at the Sydney Opera House softly illuminated with the morning sun and sipping on a delicious hot coffee, accompanied by little splashing sounds of the water underneath you. Now, I hope you have a smile on your face. Did your imagination look anything like this?
Ok, let's get back to business. The tour starts about 30 minutes before sunrise at the Lavender Bay boat ramp in North Sydney. Your group will be about 15 people in colorful kayaks with 2-3 local guides navigating you through the busy Sydney Harbour.
Fun Fact: Sydney Harbour is the only harbor in the world, where the ferries always have the right of way.
You will have plenty of time for some photo ops, and depending on your day and the ferry schedule, you could be lucky to also pass underneath the Harbour Bridge and paddle past Milsons Point, before you turn around.
The sunrise tour costs AU$145 during high-season and AU$125 during low-season per person.
We cannot recommend this tour enough!
How to get to the Lavender Boat Ramp
Should you have your campervan parked closeby, take advantage of it, and drive over the Harbour Bridge (yay!). You can find free parking either on Lavender Cres or Bay View Street.
Should your campervan not be in reach, I highly recommend taking an Uber. It is well worth it compared to public transport.
What to wear during your morning kayak
The morning hours are usually a bit chillier, especially before the sun can warm you up with its powerful rays. I recommend you wear your running outfit or any fast drying clothes and a long arm fast-drying shirt/sweater on top of a t-shirt.
