About Road Trip Explorers

Welcome to Road Trip Explorers!

We are road trip and outdoor enthusiasts on a mission to provide you with the best resources that will save you time and help you plan your next adventure.

Do you picture yourself on your next campervan holiday sitting next to a warm campfire, under the glittering stars of a remote place while sipping on some wine or beer and sharing your stories from that day with your fellow traveler(s)?✨🍷

Between that magical moment and now, you still have to plan and arrange a few things. We get it, we know what it's like trying to put a road trip together and trying to find the answers to all of your questions online. Car or campervan? Where to camp? What to wear? What to pack? What to see? When to travel?

We created Road Trip Explorers to share useful, honest, and no BS travel hacks, tips, and guides tailored for those who also want to explore the backroads and enjoy the beautiful nature our world has to offer either by car or with a rented campervan. #vancations

So, if you are a Road Tripper like us, you have come to the right place. It does not matter if this is your first or 10th road trip or campervan holiday.

At RTE you will learn how to plan better road trips, be environmentally friendly while traveling and where to find those hidden gems in your next destination.

Our Values

Digital Minimalists

We live unplugged from social media. We believe that the strongest connections in our personal lives are the ones that can survive without a social media platform.

For RTE, we have only joined YouTube, because this platform allows us to bring our content to you on an even more personal level.

Leave No Trace

We try our very best to take care of our environment and enjoy it respectfully. Leave no trace is a set of principles that encourages you to leave a place just as or better than how you found it. We try to avoid buying plastic, use unnecessary water and electricity and strive to buy local produce.

Buy Experiences, Not Things

Unless it is absolutely necessary, we don't purchase stuff. And when we do, we try to ask ourselves two key questions: 'Do we need it?', 'Will we use it?'. If it's no to one or both, we just don't buy it. We prefer to save our money and spend it on travel 😉.

Go Out & Explore

We love discovering a new country, culture, and landscape. We always try to include several outdoor activities on every trip that we take. We enjoy the outdoors and dream of one day living close to a lake surrounded by mountains.

Behind the Scenes

Jen and Yvonne at the Grand Canyon

We are Jen (right) and Yvonne (left), avid travelers who love road trips and the outdoors.

Jen is originally from Guatemala and the techy one here at RTE. Yvonne is from Germany and the content magician behind the scenes.

We currently live together in Dusseldorf, Germany - RTE's home base.

Through our lives, both separately and together, we have traveled in all kinds of ways. We've done cruises, pre-organized trips, and city trips, amongst others.

We have always loved road trips, but ever since we discovered campervanning together, road trips with a campervan have become our favorite type of travel. There is just something about driving through the backroads with your home on wheels, always looking for the scenic road, and arriving at a brand new place that has us hooked.

This is where the inspiration to start RTE came to us. We want to inspire others to explore the backroads that exist out there. We try to share as much as we can from the lessons we have learned. And to provide answers to the questions we have had while planning and being on our road trips (with a campervan).

We truly believe that travel is one of the best ways to broaden someone's horizon, improve intercultural exchange, and focus on the positive things our beautiful world has to offer.

A Bit More About Yvonne

Yvonne Koppen

Hey! I'm Yvonne. I am the one behind the research and planning of most of our trips. While on the road, I am the navigator and DJ.
Talking about music, you can listen below to a snippet of one of my favorite road trip songs:

I worked on cruises for 4 years and got to see over 80 countries during my time there. I returned to land in 2014 and settled in Dusseldorf. Ever since I am a resident at the same place, I have dedicated all my holidays and savings to keep on traveling.

A Bit More About Jen

Jen in BLM

Howdy there (yup, I like to make cowboy impressions sometimes). I'm Jen, the driver, geek, and goofy one of the two. I like to fist bump people when I first meet them. Since we are not physically talking with each other, here is an e-fist bump I hope you use to say hi.

Fist Bump

My favorite song while road trippin'? I'm glad you asked, here you can listen to a snippet:

So, as you have already read, I am originally from Guatemala. If you don't know where that is, I won't judge you. I've had people think it is in Africa, Cuba, and Asia. Truth is: we are a tiny pixel on the map under Mexico. That would make us part of Central America. We speak Spanish, eat tortillas, and love avocado (obviously).

Ever since I've been employed, all the money that I saved was spent on travel. I love going to a different country and learning about the culture, food, history, and nature there.
